Healthy living refers to projects that improve the general health of members of the community. FIOH-USA is committed to advancing the quality of life for our partner communities. We work with our partners to develop self-sustaining, life-enhancing endeavors.
Since our inception, FIOH-USA has been committed to educating children. Through your sponsorship, we have seen students graduate and move on to work to support their families and become independent members of the community. Each year FIOH-USA finds sponsors for approximately 50 students.
Agricultural programs and projects fund education, land, seeds, livestock and machinery that make it possible for people to grow and raise their own food. These projects not only provide healthy food, they bring the
community together as their lives continue to improve.
FIOH-USA provides seed money to start self-sustaining programs and projects that the community has identified as a need to improve the quality of life for their region. Proposals are always generated by our African partners and FIOH-USA is able to fund their requests because of your generous donations.
We are selling coffee, jewelry, and some bags!
Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day of generosity, occurring annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (November 28). It’s a global movement encouraging people to give back, supporting charitable causes through donations and volunteer efforts.
No, there is no set minimum or maximum. Every contribution, regardless of size, is highly appreciated.
You will be asked to fulfill your commitment once the overall fundraising goal of $6,000 is achieved. We will reach out the week after Giving Tuesday (the first week of December).
Is my commitment binding?
While we appreciate your commitment, we understand that circumstances may change. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] if adjustments are necessary.
What projects will my donation support?
So glad you asked! FIOH-USA never recommends projects–all the projects we support are directly proposed by the men and women who need help in Kenya and Zambia. Almost all of them become self-sustaining.

Current projects in need of funding in Kisumu, Kenya:
New Sr. Linda Glaeser Center - $6,000
FIOH-USA is currently supporting an office near the Obunga slum in Kisumu since late 2021. The center already serves the community, but additional funds are needed for rent, a file cabinet, library shelves, a desktop computer, and printer, office tables for the meeting room, computer room and library, 100 plastic chairs for meetings, and a lockable file cabinet. Also, volunteer teacher stipends. The cost has not been funded yet due to emergency funds needed for floods in May 2024, and most recently for the drought relief in Zambia. The cost is estimated at $6,000.
Extend Stop the Spot to Other Schools - $8,000 per year
Our successful “Stop the Spot” program provides sanitary supplies to young girls for years to reduce school absenteeism and increase graduation rates for girls. The community has asked if we can expand to more schools. Each school extension would cost approximately $500 quarterly or $2000 per school year, and immediate funding is crucial due to the pressing need. The total cost is estimated at $8,000 per year.
In Kiisi, Kenya:
Conical Multi-Story Garden Farming & Installation Training for 100 families - $3,000
This garden looks like a wedding cake. When planted it is water-friendly and requires little space to produce more vegetables. One garden can continuously feed a family of six and can be extended to more families. The total cost is about $3,000. Proposal pending.
In Chioma, Zambia:
Future Steps Business Center Support - $4,500
Still needs funding. FIOH-Z aims to support the Future Steps Business Center in Chioma. This business center has been providing vital computer training, internet access, office-related tasks, and business supplies since 2018 with the $4,500 funding provided. Ongoing support is sought until the center becomes self-sustaining, with assistance based on need and sent quarterly.
Youth Goat Project Well - $3,500
Still needs funding. After FIOH-USA funded the local youth group’s goat-raising project in 2018, which is now self-sustaining, they seek $3,500 to dig a well on the farm. The well will provide vital clean water for drinking, washing, and agriculture for all in the area. These are programs that could start immediately if funds are available.
Drought Emergency Food Relief - $3,500
Due to the drought in Zambia, emergency food relief is needed. This will include seeds, fertilizer, replanting crops, and monthly food packages for families.
Our education program needs sponsors - $23,000
In both Kenya and Zambia, education ceases to be free after the 8th grade, posing a significant financial burden for families, especially those with multiple school-aged children. Each year, individual FIOH-USA donors sponsor 40+ students enabling them to pursue their academic goals and build brighter futures for themselves, and their communities. The cost per student is roughly $450. Dozens of students are currently in need of sponsorship. Your donation of $450 or more will change the lives of these students.
Quarterly wires $13,500
Each quarter, FIOH-USA sends $4,500 to support our partners in Kenya and Zambia. These funds help them to continue their Board of Directors work to submit proposals for self-sustaining projects thereby empowering their communities.
These are programs that could start immediately if funds are available. We receive new proposals monthly. There is a great need.
Projects are initiated by the community members themselves because we believe in letting them decide what's important
100% of donations go directly to these sustainable projects for men, women and children in Kenya and Zambia
We communicate with those we help so we understand their needs and what projects need funding
You will truly be making a difference and impacting the lives of many men, women and children in Kenya and Zambia
